I suppose now the tables have turned. Willie is being asked by Peig to go along with something that sounds nuts, just as he was asking Fr. O’Flaherty to do.

I’ve decided that Peig should be the primary custodian of old Gaelic lore.  Part of the reason for that is because I needed to give her a role.  Technically, Peig’s old way of life on the Blasket Islands still existed in Ireland in the mid-30s, and her real role was as a custodian of that.  The fact that she has the added bonus of providing plot advancement that would otherwise be very difficult to work into the story.
