I once took an entire doctoral course devoted exclusively to Oscar Wilde. There, I learned that he suffered to the end of his life with ear pain cause by the poor conditions he faced in prison. It’s hard for me to pick an author to claim as my favorite. I’ve long been a fan of Yeats, I wrote my MA thesis on O’Casey (getting a shave in this strip), and really came to like Oscar during that course. As I write my dissertation this year, I’m reading a lot of Charles J. Kickham, and I suppose that if I had to pick one person to claim as a favorite, it would be him.
